Work
The employment rate in the region is excellent, most people have no difficulty finding 'a' job (yes, a job is said in this region instead of saying a job. In fact, several expressions of English origin are used in the feminine language, when used in French in this region).
Several companies are looking for employees. For example, in the field of education, health, but also in the private sectors.
If you are looking for a summer job and you are not too old, day camps are an area in which job offers are numerous!
On the Quebec side, companies in the region use mainly the website of the Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity[5] to advertise their job offers.

Communicate
The telephone code in Ottawa is 613 and the area code is 343. For Hull, it is 819 and the superposition is 873. Ten-digit dialing (area code + local number) is required for all local calls.
Security
The region of the national capital is quite quiet. However, there are some areas to avoid at night, such as Old Hull, Rideau Street and By Market. However, there are generally no problems in most of the two cities. So you don't have too much to worry about.
In case of emergency, call 9-1-1. If you use a public telephone, the call will be free. Don't hang up until the operator asks you to.
Health
You probably won't have any trouble getting treatment in French or English. However, it is advisable to go to the Quebec side to get treatment in French or to go to the Montfort hospital in Ottawa. The other hospitals in Ontario are mainly English-speaking, although mostly bilingual. However, visit hospitals only if immediate care is required. The wait in emergency rooms is easily counted in hours and can reach up to 10 p.m for hospitals on the Quebec bank when there are problems and if your case is not urgent.
You will not be able to get free care if you are not a resident of Canada. Therefore, it is recommended that you have travel insurance to prevent high costs, even if they are generally lower than in the United States.
Manage daily
Most shops and malls are open 7 days a week, and are often open until 9 pm on Thursdays and Fridays.
Several petrol stations and restaurants (fast food for the most part) are open 24 hours a day, so you won't have too much trouble finding information if you are lost.
Note that all of the following products are sold only to adults (18 years in Quebec, 19 years in Ontario unless otherwise indicated):
- Products containing alcohol (including wines)
- Tobacco products
- Fireworks
- Games rated "M - Mature" can be purchased from 17 years of age.
- Movies rated 18+ can be rented and purchased from 18 years of age.
Alcohol
On both sides of the river, alcohol laws are strict. On the Ontario side (Ottawa), you can only store alcohol at the LCBO (for wines and spirits) and the Beer Store for beer. As for the Outaouais (Gatineau), convenience stores and grocery stores have the option of selling beer and a limited selection of wines and other alcoholic beverages (not normally exceeding 20% alcohol by volume) up to 23 h, while for a greater selection of wines and spirits, the SAQ will be required.
Driving a vehicle is prohibited if the driver's blood alcohol level exceeds 0.08% in Quebec and 0.05% in Ontario.
It is also forbidden to carry alcohol in your vehicle if it is not in the back trunk. It is also forbidden to drink alcohol on the street.
